Pizza Margherita con Palmito Fresco

Margherita Pizza is pretty much perfect as it is. Traditionally made with tomato sauce, cheese and basil, it’s as close to pizza heaven as it gets. The only way we’ve been able to improve on it has been by adding olive oil marinated fresh hearts of palm to out Margs.

 
 

Ingredients

  • 1 lb   Pizza dough

  • 2 oz  Marinara or tomato sauce

  • 4 oz  Grated mozzarella cheese

  • 4 oz  Sliced and chopped fresh hearts of palm

  • 4 oz  Sliced or chopped tomatoes

  • 2 oz  Fresh basil leaves

  • Extra virgin olive oil

  • Sea salt to taste

  • Freshly ground pepper to taste

  • Flour to roll out and dust the dough with

 
 

Instructions

  1. Slice and chop the fresh hearts of palm

  2. Place them in a bowl and toss them with olive oil, sea salt, freshly ground pepper, and garlic salt (can use minced fresh garlic). Let them marinate in the fridge or on the counter for 15-30 minutes.

  3. Preheat oven to 450° F.

  4. Dust counter top with flour and roll pizza dough into a 12 inch pie.

  5. Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the pie, then top with grated mozzarella.

  6. Layer the fresh hearts of palm and tomatoes over the cheese.

  7. Drizzle whole pie with olive oil.

  8. Add salt and pepper to taste.

  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes on a pizza stone or cookie sheet, or until cheese is bubbling and dough is to the desired crispiness.

  10. Add basil leaves to pizza as soon as you remove it from the oven.
